My First Waterloo 1970

My Waterloo 2010

On the 18th of June 1815 the last battle of Napoleon was fought at a small place called Waterloo nearby Brussels, Belgium. French troops where already several days in small fighting's with the Allied forces under command of The Duke of Wellington for the British, Blucher for the Prussians forces.

I don't know how I became fascinated by this specific battle, it must have been about 1970... With one of my brothers, Frans who is a year younger, I started painting Airfix 1:72 soldiers. After a while we had painted more than a thousand soldiers and our first Waterloo was a fact.

I believe that it wasafter 2 or 3 years we started quarreling about the uniforms and whether some troops had been there on that time or not. Our lack of knowledge was the reason that we stopped painting and our Waterloo project stopped.

It was very nice to find out that there are nowadays so many more Waterloo figures than in the 70's.

"Years and years I tried all kind of brands, till I found out the series 5580, 1520 and 1270. They keep in form after painting a lot of figures, even for the most smallets details. I don't think there are better ones....."
